GIZ ValuES - Method Profile: Scoping ecosystem services for impact assessment (WRI)

This manual for scoping ecosystem services is related to impact assessments. It enables the identification of key ecosystem services that could be impacted by or could constrain the successful implementation of projects at a point when they can still be modified. The complete manual covers six steps for integrating ecosystem services into corporate social and environmental impact analyses. Here we present the steps 1 and 2 for scoping ecosystem services. The scoping of ecosystem services builds on guiding questions for practitioners. Step 1: Identifying relevant ecosystem services. Step 2: Specifying what needs to be known about them or further examined for their meaningful consideration within an EIA. The manual emphasizes an integrated approach across biophysical and socio-economic disciplines.
