EnRoute stands for Enhancing Resilience of urban ecosystems through green infrastructure. EnRoute is a project of the European Commission in the framework of the EU Biodiversity Strategy and the Green Infrastructure Strategy. EnRoute provides scientific knowledge of how urban ecosystems can support urban planning at different stages of policy and for various spatial scales and how to help policy-making for sustainable cities. It aims to promote the application of urban green infrastructure at local level and delivers guidance on the creation, management and governance of urban green infrastructure. Importantly, it illustrates how collaboration between and across different policy levels can lead to concrete green infrastructure policy setting.

EnRoute Webinar: Oslo and Poznan present their case studies (23 March at 11:00)

We organise a webinar on Friday 23 March from 11.00 to 12:00. During the webinar the Oslo and Poznan city labs will briefly present their work: what policy issue is at stake and which indicators/methods did the experts use to address these challenges.

How to measure the condition of urban ecosystems? Here is an innovative approach tested in Karlovo (Bulgaria), one of the EnRoute city labs
This paper published by Bulgarian scientists in One Ecosystem explains how a combination of in-situ inspections of individual urban trees and observations based on remote sensing of urban vegetation can help assess the health of urban ecosystems. Both methods are applied to different urban green spaces in Karlovo and deliver an insight on the vitality of the tree communities in the city.

Survey: Understanding the Science-Policy-Interface in planning urban green infrastructure projects
Do cities use science when planning for infrastructure projects? Do scientists share their knowledge with urban policy makers? Do urban policy makers know the functions of nature in the city?
We need to know so here you can participate to our short survey on science policy interface on urban green infrastructure.

5th MAES report on ecosystem condition is out.
The fifth MAES report presents indicators for mapping and assessment of ecosystem condition at European level. A set with specific indicators is available for assessment of ecosystem condition per ecosystem type. A core set with key indicators is available to support an integrated ecosystem assessment across ecosystem type.
The report contains an update of the indicators which measure the condition of urban ecosystems.

3nd meeting of the Partnership on Sustainable Use of Land and Nature-based Solutions, 18/19 December 2017, Zagreb
The partnership on sustainable land use and nature-based solutions meets two days in Zabreb to start the development of an action plan with proposals for better knowlegde, better regulation and better funding of nature-based solutions and liveable compactness of Europe's cities.
EnRoute can contribute by providing proposals for better knowlegde. JRC is a parter and represents EnRoute.

EnRoute meeting in Tallinn: Conference report
As part of the Presidency of the Estonian Republic of the Council of the European Union, a flagship conference “Nature-based Solutions: From Innovation to Common-use” was organized by the Ministry of the Environment of Estonia and the University of Tallinn. EnRoute organized a side event on the conference with a focus on how the project can contribute to the knowledge base supporting nature-based solutions in cities. New York city mapped its trees and assessed their economic benefit

Trento city lab working on nature-based recreation: first results and next steps
Nature-based recreation has been acknowledged as a key issue for the city of Trento, also in relation to policies aimed at increasing the availability of urban green areas and providing equal opportunities across the city.
