Handbook on Implementation of Nature-based Solutions

There is a need for mainstreaming and scaling up nature-based solutions and therefore the Nordic Council of Ministers has decided that it should be easy for politicians and administrations in the Nordic countries to get started.

Hands-on guidelines on best-practice will be gathered in a handbook that will be published next year. The project was put out for tender earlier this year, and NINA - Norsk institutt for naturforskning, the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research, won the tender and will carry out the work until December 2024.

The handbook will build on previous projects i.e.

- the synthesis: https://lnkd.in/d-9zUuEJ

- and the eight pilot projects in seven of the Nordic countries: https://lnkd.in/dMubRkhB

The handbook will deliver various communications aimed at different levels of decision-making to increase knowledge and awareness on nature-based solutions for climate, biodiversity, and climate change adaptation. Methods to assess the socio-economic aspects of these options for conservation and restoration of nature will also be provided in the guidance.

In addition to this handbook, a contract has been signed with NIVA, the Norwegian Institute for Water Research, who will produce a similar handbook on the facilitation of NbS processes. Read more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/ea5Y5JeF
