Hello, very happy to be back bringing you some exciting NBS and biodiversity news. We would like to highlight the EC RTD independent expert report on the role of nature-based solutions in the transition towards a nature positive economy coming out of the NBS Task Force work. Definitely a worthwhile read! 

 

Opportunities  

 

  • The H2020 project CONEXUS is collecting NBS professional skills gaps in order to recommend a professional training curriculum in Nature-based Solutions  for successful NBS planning and implementation. Take part in the survey  
  • The CLEARING HOUSE project launched calls to contribute to the writing of Guidelines on Urban Forests as Nature-Based Solutions, to assist local authorities, consultants, decision-makers and other stakeholders in Europe, China and worldwide. check here and express your interest as soon as possible! 
  • Send in NBS related facts (1-2 sentences with quantifiable content) for a chance to be featured in NetworkNature social media campaign #NatureFact to nea.pakarinen@iclei.org (see example here
  • Public consultation on the Environmental Liability Directive that establishes a framework based on the ‘polluter pays’ principle to prevent and remedy environmental damage. 


 

Events & webinars  

 

  • H2020 EdiCitNet project is holding a Lunch Talk webinar on May 17th entitled “Food Connects Us: How to Join Forces with City Authorities for More Social, Edible Cities”. And an online networking event (held on the platform wonder.me, which allows participants to wander around the space and dip in and out of different discussions) on Wednesday May 25th 13-14.00 (CEST) to talk about green, sustainable, social cities and what city administrations around Europe are doing to innovate for more sustainable urban food systems.  
  • On May 18 at 14:00 CEST, H2020 project URBAN GreenUP will hold the webinar “How to develop a renaturing urban plan for your city?”. Agenda and registration link here
  • On June 2 at 14.00 CEST, H2020 MULTISOURCE project and Water Europe are organising a clustering event involving four EU funded NbS-focused projects (NICE , HYDROUSA , UNALAB , CONNECTING NATURE ) to discuss the results, challenges, pressures and opportunities arising from their respective NbS project experiences.   • The H2020 project JUSTNature has been successfully selected for the Festival of the new hybrid European Bauhaus festival in Brussels from the 9th to the 12th of June 2022. The Festival brings the European Green Deal at the heart of our daily lives. 
  • The First Forum of the EC Mission Adaptation to Climate Change will take place on 7 June 2022. The annual event will be the moment to take stock, to identify issues, to provide direction and to define the path ahead for the mission. It will also present the situation in Europe regarding adaptation to climate change and will gather input from regions, including on intentions to participate in the Mission.  Link to register to the event.

  • Register to the 2022 Alternet Conference "Transformative Changes for Biodiversity and Health." June 2022.
