TF1 | Workstream 4: horizon scanning

TF1 Workstream 4

Workstream 4 helps to scan the horizon for relevant projects, resources, technologies and innovations that we can learn from.

Data and information technology (IT) are fast-moving fields; and here in Task Force 1 we're mindful that it can be difficult keeping track of everything that's going on around us. That's why we set up Workstream 4 to identify the latest developments and connect with the people behind them.

So far we've had some very informative presentations and discussions on a wide range of topics, including:

  • BioAgora and the new EU Science Service, launching in 2026, which aims to strengthen the science-policy interface in achieving transformative change for biodiversity.
  • Work done by the GREAT project in paving the way for the Green Deal Data Space: an infrastructure that will allow data providers and initiatives to openly share their data to tackle climate change.
  • Support from the Horizon Standardisation Booster on how projects can adopt, contribute to and develop standards for nature-based solutions.
  • The role of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) in helping to mobilise, align and scale resources across Europe to accelerate open science and increase trust in research.
  • Proposals for an EU Biodiversity Observation Coordination Centre (EBOCC) as a permanent infrastructure to coordinate and foster high-quality data on biodiversity.
  • Cutting-edge work by Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) on using AI to improve land use decision-making (topic of an upcoming webinar under Workstream 3: learning events).

All this plus numerous insights from our colleagues at the European Commission and other NbS Task Forces.
