We are happy to share that the Cities Mission Platform managed by NetZeroCities (a NetworkNature collaborator!) is now expanding its support to all cities across Europe and Horizon associated countries. This is great opportunity for cities eager to reach climate neutrality!

As part of the EU Cities Mission, the Mission Platform managed by NetZeroCities has been supporting 112 Mission Cities selected by the European Commission as they strive to reach climate neutrality by 2030.

Building on this experience and on the resources, tools and capacities created to support Mission Cities, the Mission Platform is now engaging with all cities across Europe and Horizon-associated countries wanting to move towards climate neutrality, regardless of their current climate progress. This is a great opportunity to learn from Mission Cities, drawing on their experiences and strategies to shape local approaches for climate neutrality, and to contribute to the broader EU Green Deal goal of achieving a climate-neutral Europe by 2050.

What’s in for your city

The Mission Platform offers a set of services, tools resources and opportunities for cities to reinforce and accelerate climate action towards net zero. Cities engaging with the Platform will gain access to a blend of online and in-person activities, starting from the NetZeroCities Portal and including online groups, study visits, twinning with Mission Cities, and engagement at the national and regional level.

A dedicated Helpdesk is available to help cities as they navigate tools, resources and services available, and to guide them in accessing the appropriate support according to their unique context and needs.

How to get on board

We encourage you to seize this opportunity and engage with the Mission Platform to unlock resources and guidance, accelerating your city's path towards climate neutrality.

About the EU Cities Mission

EU Missions are a new way to bring concrete solutions to some of our greatest challenges. They have ambitious goals and will deliver tangible results by 2030, by putting research and innovation into a new role, combined with new forms of governance and collaboration, as well as by engaging citizens. EU Missions are a novelty of the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme for the years 2021-2027.

Since climate mitigation is heavily dependent on urban action, we need to support cities in accelerating their green and digital transformation. The EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, in short the EU Cities Mission, involves local authorities, citizens, businesses, investors as well as regional and national authorities to:

  • 1) Deliver 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030
  • 2) Ensure that these cities act as experimentation and innovation hubs to enable all European cities to follow suit by 2050.

The EU Cities Mission contributes to the European Green Deal in building a low-carbon, climate-resilient future through research and innovation.
