The Talking About Our Place toolkit help a community think about some of the issues their place may be facing, and encourages them to get involved. It will help people: explore what makes their place special recognise what benefits their place provides for identify what issues affect their place or may affect it in the future help communities use this understanding to shape the decisions made about how their place should be cared for in the future. This process can be useful in helping communities develop projects and bid for funding from organisations like Heritage Lottery Fund and the Climate Challenge Fund as well as provide evidence for consideration in decisions to be made about their area.

Requirements:

  • The toolkit can be used by a wide range of existing community groups, or by people wanting to set up new groups to get involved in looking after their place.
  • The toolkit is intended to be used by communities who live in a more rural environment, but it can also be used by people living in towns and cities who are interested in improving or celebrating their place.

Advantages:

  • The toolkit has been designed so a community can take forward and deliver a project on its own and without the need for other organisations.

Constraints:

  • The toolkit is aimed mainly at a Scottish audience however, the tools and approaches are applicable to any local community interested in developing a community based understanding of their local landscape and nature based solutions within it.
