Webinar 23rd oct 2025 Online

River restoration is emerging as a key strategy to address the environmental, social, and urban challenges facing our cities. In response to the ecological degradation of many urban waterways, more and more projects across Europe are working to restore rivers’ natural dynamics by promoting nature-based solutions (NbS) and technologies such as bioengineering.

This webinar brings together different European experiences to share knowledge on urban river restoration. It will feature actions from the Manzanares-Gavia-Bulera project in Madrid, developed within the framework of the green and blue infrastructure Metropolitan Forest, alongside notable interventions in Portugal, Germany & Italy. These initiatives not only improve water quality and biodiversity, but also help to reconnect citizens with their natural environment. We will also have a space for dialogue to reflect on the transformative role of these interventions. How do they shape public perception of these rivers? What challenges and opportunities arise when applying nature-based solutions in urban environments? This event aims to become a technical and strategic forum to promote greener, healthier, and more connected cities through river ecosystems.
