The Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) is an international conference on central issues of vital importance for global agricultural and food policies. It is held in Berlin on an annual basis at the same time as the International Green Week (IGW), hosted by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) in cooperation with the Berlin Senate, Messe Berlin GmbH and GFFA Berlin e.V. In 2022 the conference will focus on issues relating to land and soil. In this context TMG Research will organise a panel on the relationship between soil restoration and tenure rights.
The objective is to discuss the potential of the UNCCD COP14/26 decision on land tenure to achieve land degradation neutrality and soil restoration in the national context. It will focus on the urgency of addressing land tenure issues more prominently in the design and implementation of activities to restore soils and to achieving land degradation neutrality. Country studies will highlight the link between land tenure and how tenure ultimately affects the achievement of restoration goals. The studies are part of an ongoing cooperation between TMG Research and partner organisations in the four countries funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development to support the implementation of the UNCCD COP14/26 decision. The co-hosts of this session will jointly emphasize that secure tenure rights are key to achieving just transitions towards land degradation neutrality and soil rehabilitation.
