This infographic presents the Lake Chimaditida (Greece) Case Study from the NATMed PRIMA Project, showcasing an innovative NbS that combines traditional practices with modern technology to restore and protect wetland ecosystems.

Lake Chimaditida, a Natura 2000 protected wetland in Amyntaio (Northern Greece), faces ecological pressure due to the uncontrolled spread of reed beds, threatening biodiversity and aquatic habitats. The NATMed solution introduces controlled grazing by Greek buffaloes as a natural, low-impact management strategy to regulate vegetation dynamics and maintain ecological balance. The approach is reinforced through smart management tools.

Results demonstrate multiple ecological benefits, including strengthening the lake’s role as a natural carbon sink, contributing to climate neutrality goals, and supporting more sustainable water management.
