At the UN Climate Action Summit 2019 UN chief António Guterres gathered the world’s political, business and civil society leaders in New York in an effort to jump start action on climate change.
Dozens of promises were made by governments, civil society and business. The promises were focused on six areas, one of which was nature-based solutions.
Ahead of the summit contributions to the nature-based solutions work stream were collated. These are available to read in a Compendium of Contributions. This compendium features a summary of initiatives and best practices received from the United Nations Secretary-General, nature-based solutions global call.
Following the summit a series of nature-based solution commitments were made. These include efforts to conserve and restore marine and terrestrial ecosystems, promote regenerative agriculture and the greening of supply chains, and advance innovative financing mechanisms to scale-up nature-based solutions. Further specifics have been published in a UN Climate Action Summit press release.
