Nature-based solutions represent a key approach to improving air quality, microclimate, health and well-being of urban populations
A new European Commission report, ‘Nature-based solutions for microclimate regulation and air quality’ highlights the combination of environmental and social benefits presented by different kinds of nature-based solutions.
Air quality and temperature significantly affect human health, especially in urban areas. This report highlights different kinds of nature-based solutions that help improve air quality and regulate microclimate and that present a combination of other environmental and social benefits, including mental health.
The report provides an overview of results from EU-funded nature-based solutions projects and how they support policy implementation in relation to microclimate regulation and air quality.
