As 2025 draws to a close, NetworkNature reflects on a year of remarkable progress and collective achievement across the NetworkNature community. The dedication and collaboration of our partners, NbS Task Forces, NbS hubs, and the greater NbS community have continued to drive transformation on multiple fronts, advancing Nature-based Solutions (NbS) across Europe and globally.
Key Achievements in 2025
Research, Policy & Standardisation
- We contributed to NbS standardisation in Europe through collaborative work with CEN and CENELEC via Working Group 1. This work furthered the development of a common NbS vocabulary. This work was not done by NetworkNature, alone - the launch of a Cen Workshop Agreement was overseen by the NATURANCE project!
- Our NbS Community continued to work together to contribute to the NbS knowledge base. We are especially excited about the two major publications produced by NbS Task Forces with input from over 45 projects. Check out the policy brief on a competitive, nature-positive economy and the guide to co-creating NbS with commonly excluded stakeholders.
- NbS and business also got more attention. The report, Nature-based Solutions (NbS) Finance Landscape in Europe: A Guide to the Outlining the business case, financing models and skillsets required to mobilise investment into NbS in Europe outlines what NbS are and how a business case can be developed for investing in them.
Community Building & Collaboration
- This year NetworkNature dedicated efforts to advocate for NbS at European and global events: for example at the IUCN World Conservation Congress (Abu Dhabi) and COP 30, via joint sessions with COOP4CBD, RESPIN, and BioAgora.
- The NbS Business Forum officially launched during the NetworkNature Annual Event, with a mission to accelerate the uptake and scaling of NbS by fostering partnerships, highlighting opportunities for nature financing, sharing insights from research, and providing training on the business dimensions of NbS.
- Our opinion piece in EURACTIV, “Investing in Nature: The Competitive Edge for a Resilient Economy” highlighted the need for policy to support financial flows for Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to build a more resilient and competitive economy.
- We launched our visual NbS Walkthrough to promote widespread understanding of how NbS can contribute to systemic change and help achieve international commitments on biodiversity, climate action and sustainable development.
Looking ahead to 2026
As we close out 2025, we enter 2026 with renewed vision and energy.
- Our next steps include laying down groundwork for an ambitious 2026 roadmap: including delivery of an updated NbS Roadmap to support EU-level policy and monitoring.
- We are gearing up for the 2026 NetworkNature Annual Event and Nature-based Solutions International Congress, taking place Nov. 3-6 in Paris, France. In addition to our typical annual event meeting, we will also host a Cities Day in partnership with the City of Paris and UNP+! Stay tuned for details on this peer2peer learning extravaganza.
- We are calling all interested citizens, neighbours, activists, educators, volunteers, and community groups to take part in the Global Survey on Citizen Action for nature, which will co-create a Roadmap for Citizen Action on Nature-based Solutions.
- Policy resources will continue to pave the way for NbS implementation in Europe. Into the New Year we want to hear from the NbS Community on how to design our platform to be useful and accessible for these vital materials to continue on the wealth of resources and exchange the NbS Community has built this year, including the Science Policy Workshop series.
- Above all we look forward to deepening community and partner collaboration through events, joint initiatives and shared learning.
Thank you to our collaborators for your creativity, dedication, and trust that transforms how people, nature, and societies thrive.
Here’s to a nature-positive and impactful 2026!
