From 3 to 5 February 2026, the BIOFIN-EU project was featured at the Finance Innovation Festival hosted by the NATURANCE project in Brussels. The event brought together policymakers, financial institutions, researchers, and practitioners to explore how finance can better support Nature-based Solutions and accelerate the transition toward a Nature-Positive Economy.
Discussions highlighted a widening gap between accelerating environmental risks and the slower pace of financial deployment.
On Day 1, BIOFIN-EU contributed to a session organised by ICLEI Europe, focusing on how to measure progress toward a Nature-Positive Economy. Experts from EU institutions, research projects, and global initiatives worked on defining indicators and policy pathways to drive systemic change.
On Day 2, an interactive session brought together BIOFIN-EU and BIO-CAPITAL projects, in a co-creation workshop on “Designing insurance as a catalyst for nature positive finance”. Participants explored how insurance products can incentivise sustainable practices, support prevention, and finance resilience, moving beyond traditional risk transfer.
Overall, the festival reinforced the growing momentum for nature-based finance in Europe. Through its contributions, BIOFIN-EU continues to support innovative approaches, collaboration, and practical solutions for building resilient, nature-positive economic systems.
