EU Research Project BIOFIN-EU Hosts Policy Forum on Nature-Positive Finance and Food System Resilience
One-day event in Brussels on 25 November brings together policy, food industry and financial sectors to discuss nature-related risk and showcase new practical decision-making tools
The BIOFIN-EU research project will host a policy forum in Brussels on 25 November 2026, convening policy officials, food and agriculture sector representatives, and financial practitioners to discuss how nature and biodiversity can be valued across economic decision-making.
Titled "Nature Risk and Reward: Valuing Nature for a Resilient Food System", the forum marks the culmination of BIOFIN-EU, a three-year EU-funded research project on finance for biodiversity protection and restoration. This event will explore how we value nature and assess nature-related risks, showcase new decision support tools and hold workshops to address nature and food systems resilience.
The food sector sits at the heart of the forum’s agenda. Food and agriculture businesses face some of the most direct exposures to nature-related risk: supply chain dependencies on healthy ecosystems, growing regulatory requirements under sustainability reporting frameworks, and increasing investor scrutiny of biodiversity-related impacts.
The programme combines expert keynotes drawing on perspectives from the finance, food, and policy communities with interactive breakout workshops on themes including nature finance, valuing nature, aligning incentives, a new version of Nature Value at Risk (NVaR), and the new BIOFIN-EU dashboard.

A conversation across sectors
For food sector professionals, the forum offers direct engagement with the policy landscape shaping nature-related reporting and investment requirements, alongside peers rarely gathered in one room.
For financial sector participants, the day provides grounded insight into how nature-related risk is being assessed and measured within food systems, unveiling of new tools and systems, and what emerging frameworks mean for investment and lending decisions.
For policy officials, it surfaces the practitioner perspective: where tools work, where gaps remain, and what the private sector needs to translate biodiversity commitments into action.
