The Nordic Council of Ministers is supporting the development of a Nordic guidance for the implementation and evaluation of Nature-based Solutions.
The project is carried out by GEON in Denmark, led by Anette Petersen.
The IUCN Global Standard for nature-based solutions provides a common framework for designing, implementing and assessing Nature-based Solutions. It is intended to support practical implementation and contribute to a common understanding of what constitutes high-quality NbS.
This Nordic project aims to make the Standard more accessible and easier to apply across the Nordic region. As part of the work, the IUCN Global Standard for Nature-based Solutions and its Self-assessment Tool (SAT) will be made available in six Nordic languages, together with a Nordic guidance supporting their practical use.
The guidance will help users apply the IUCN framework in Nordic contexts while retaining the principles and criteria of the Global Standard. It is intended to support municipalities, practitioners, policymakers, project developers and other actors involved in planning, implementing and evaluating Nature-based Solutions.
By increasing access to the Standard and its assessment framework, the project aims to contribute to consistent and high-quality implementation of Nature-based Solutions across the Nordic region.
