EU public policies are central to scaling up freshwater restoration and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) across Europe. This review highlights opportunities to strengthen NbS support, improve cross-sector coordination, and mainstream effective approaches from MERLIN case studies. It also points to upcoming EU policy review cycles up to 2030 as key moments to embed freshwater restoration into policy and practice. this is relevant for policy makers at the regional scale
