Resource description:

This report presents a practical decision-support tool developed within the UPSURGE Project. The tool helps policymakers identify and implement tailored Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in cities. It introduces a “matchmaking matrix” that links urban sustainability challenges to relevant NbS options, key performance indicators (KPIs), and suitable plant species. Through a structured self-assessment, cities can quickly identify priority environmental and socio-economic issues and receive targeted, actionable NbS recommendations. The tool supports informed decision-making in the planning and design phases of the policy cycle, ensuring interventions are context-specific and aligned with broader sustainability goals. It also lays the foundation for future standardisation and wider uptake of NbS across cities.
