The Oppla platform has been reimagined to help people discover, share and create solutions for nature. When Oppla first launched in 2016, the outputs from environmental research projects were scattered across many websites. This meant valuable research on nature-based solutions, natural capital and ecosystem services was hard to find, and often disappeared once a project ended.
Through a collaboration between the OPERAs and OpenNESS projects, we had an opportunity to address these problems. We developed Oppla, an open platform where environmental research is permanently accessible, which we established as a non-profit organisation to support our mission into the future.
Since then, we’ve been recognised as the EU Nature-Based Solutions Knowledge Repository and our community has grown to over 5,000 people, making us one of the world’s largest communities on nature-based solutions. With over 1,000 resources and 400 case studies uploaded to Oppla, there’s more environmental knowledge available than ever before.
With increasing content, finding the most relevant resources, news and events has become challenging. To fully support our members, we recognise it’s time for Oppla to evolve.
What’s new?
Building on years of experience and insights from our community, we’ve been working hard to develop an efficient, dynamic platform to enhance:
- Discovery: An improved search, intelligent keywords and related content features help you to discover relevant resources, events and news.
- Collaboration: Oppla Groups are new online spaces where you can showcase your project or community, connect with peers, co-create knowledge, and grow your network.
- Design: A clearer, faster interface makes it more enjoyable to interact with Oppla and promote your own work.
With these new features, Oppla is transforming into an exciting, dynamic space which will increase impact, unlock collaboration and enable people to discover, share and create solutions for nature.
Next steps
At Oppla, we believe environmental research should be openly available and permanently accessible, so that we can all make better-informed decisions for a healthy planet. We also believe that access alone isn’t enough - real impact comes from engagement, collaboration and action. We’re continuing to grow and develop new features and improvements to help us achieve these goals.
