This marketplace exists to connect large-scale restoration projects with potential financial partners. It is a platform where potential funders can easily browse through restoration projects seeking financial partners, and where large-scale projects can present their opportunity in an attractive and relatable way, drawing on expertise and experience developed during the SUPERB and MERLIN projects.
We use a very broad definition of restoration on this platform, with a focus on restoring ecological functions and resilience. Projects that aim to fully restore sites to a reference condition can be included, as well as projects that improve ecological conditions within multi-functional landscapes. The key requirements are that projects apply techniques that have already been demonstrated or successfully piloted, and that they are large-scale or scalable.
The marketplace serves as an introduction service, and is entirely user driven. Projects are responsible for providing accurate information about their project, and there is no broker or intermediary. Every project must provide contact details and basic information about their project, to help financial partners to get the initial information they need to explore further.
If you are a project looking for a financial partner, we have designed the system to be simple to use, and to highlight the information that will be the most useful for partners. The site is targeted at well-developed large-scale projects (>€500,000) and projects which are looking to scale following a successful pilot or demonstration phase. We provide guidance for projects wishing to on-board, to help you focus on the key information to attract potential partners.
If you are looking to invest in or finance restoration projects, we have a simple search facility to help you identify projects which may be of interest, and then provide contact details should you wish to pursue the opportunity further. All information is provided by the project, and no verification is carried out by Oppla.
If you wish to explore good practice advice for financing forest restoration, please head across to the Restoration Gateway, where you will find a carefully curated and targeted collection of resources (guidance, stories, scientific papers, demos etc). If you are interested in restoring freshwater habitats, please head to the MERLIN Academy.
The Restoration Marketplace is a joint output of the SUPERB and MERLIN projects. Learn more about these projects below.
