Resource description:

Wal-ES is the walloon (Southern part of Belgium) platform on ecosystem services which aims to develop decision support tools based on this concept. During its one year of funding, Wal-ES set up the foundations for the development of these tools. A conceptual and an assessment frameworks have been created along with a database that contains all the information needed to assess ecosystem services in Wallonia. More information can be founded on the website (unfortunately just in French): http://webserver.wal-es.be/fr/wal-es.html?IDC=5732

Advantages:

  • Common foundations to use ecosystem services in decision support tools
  • Guidelines to assess ecosystem services with an integrative approach

Constraints:

  • Website in French
  • These foundations need to be put into practice (but Wal-ES is currently no longer funded)

Uses of this resource:

Wal-ES can be used to:

- Understand the concept of ecosystem services and its uses

- Find the ecosystem services that are provided in Wallonia

- Assess ecosystem services in an integrative way

- Find the information needed to assess ecosystem services in Wallonia
