Specific silvicultural itineraries to optimize the production of quality timber and economic yield of Pinus pinaster.

Four silvicultural scenarios have been created considering the wood quality: - Standard scenario (M2): Involves three thinnings and a final felling. - Short rotation scenario with subsidies (M4): Includes one thinning and a final felling. - No management scenario (M8): Only comprises a final felling, assuming natural mortality from the plantation. - Multi-product scenario (MG2): Offers two alternatives, one with plantation and the other with natural regeneration followed by thinning after 5 years. Economic analyses indicate that the minimum site quality for profitability is in medium sites. In lower-quality areas, profitability is possible with good natural regeneration and subsidies. The MG2 scenario stands out as the most profitable in all conditions, except in quality 7m with a 2% interest rate. This scenario provides higher profitability than M2 but requires less time and fewer silvicultural actions. Natural regeneration proves more profitable compared to plantation due to cost savings.
