Nordic cities and communities have a long history of striving to be green and sustainable, but urban development creates new challenges and demands on urban green structure. Meanwhile, the importance of urban ecosystems and the benefits they provide have been widely recognized and is now part of international sustainable urban development strategies. Recently, the UN and the EU have proposed targets for increase and restoration of urban green space. This conference raises questions about how Nordic cities and communities can prepare for new targets and for the transformation into greener, healthier, and more resilient societies.

The conference will focus on sharing knowledge and best practice, discussing next practice within this field, building networks of professionals in public and private sector and give inspiring examples from the Nordic countries.

Day 1 will focus on how urban green space can contribute to healthier built environments that are adapted to climate change. Day 2 will focus on how this transformation can be implemented, discussing tools and methods as well as cases. You can participate either one of the days or both.  It is also possible to join day 1 online.

From the programme:

  • Lectures of inspiration on multifunctionality of urban green space and its importance for health, climate change adaptation and biodiversity.
  • 3-30-300 guideline, what does it mean and where does it come from?
  • Nordic examples of green strategies and nature-based solutions.
  • Urban ecosystem services in global and European targets and strategies.
  • Ecosystem accounting.
  • Workshops on tools and guidelines for green planning, green infrastructure, and nature-based solutions as well as indicators for monitoring.
