There is a growing awareness that wetlands can help to protect us from climate change impacts, while they are gaining traction in international policy and business discourse. Compromise among the different wetlands functionalities remains a challenge during the restoration and management of these environments, due to the variability of climatic conditions, funding limitations, management plans, and adequate community participation.

This session aims to create a forum where experiences from wetlands restoration projects are welcomed to increase knowledge on how to achieve wetlands long-term resilience. By sharing and discussing past and current scientific projects within the scientific community we want to identify the main challenges in wetlands governance. The connection between people and wetlands and how to use it as leverage to upscale the restoration of ecosystems and their services can also be explored.
