The UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) is the highest decision-making body on environmental matters in the UN system. Due to the global pandemic, a virtual session of UNEA-5 took place during its originally scheduled meeting time (February 2021). A resumed in-person session of UNEA-5 is expected to take place from 28 February to 2 March 2022.
The overall theme of UNEA-5 is: 'Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals'.
This event will be preceded by the resumed in-person session of the fifth OECPR meeting.
It will be followed by a special session of the UNEA-5 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations Environment Programme, from 3-4 March 2022.
