Invest4Nature Cooperation in Tyrol

New cooperation within the framework of Invest4Nature with local and regional project partners aims to contribute to knowledge about our nature-based solutions in Tyrol. In times of climate change, we see nature-based solutions as one of the most important measures for successful adaptation.

Flagship Projects: Life Lech and Climate-Resilient Mountain Forest

We are pleased to highlight two exemplary projects over the next three years together with our committed regional and local partners. These case studies aim to showcase the benefits of projects such as the Climate-Resilient Mountain Forest and the revitalization project Life Lech.

Climate-Resilient Mountain Forest in Wildermieming

Tyrol's forests fulfill important functions: they produce oxygen, provide habitat and recreation, and offer protection for people, animals, and plants. Due to their economic value and rapid growth, spruce is the most widespread tree species in local forests. However, spruce and other species are under pressure from climate change. The rapid climate change threatens the stability and resilience of protective forests, so their robustness must be improved. Local forest rangers and municipalities play a strategic role here. In Wildermieming, the forest ranger has been working for 25 years on transitioning to a climate-resilient mountain forest.

Dynamic River System Lech – Revitalizing a Wild River for Flood Protection

The limited space in Tyrol's valleys poses a special challenge. Climate change and increasing socio-economic activities have led to a rethink. The Lech is not only known as a wild mountain river but also as a prime example of flood protection and river development for the benefit of nature and residents. The LIFE project 'Dynamic River System Lech' demonstrates how flood protection measures can revive a wild river. Revitalization projects have restored natural characteristics to many sections of the Lech, making it a model for modern flood and nature protection with numerous local and regional benefits.

We look forward to further collaboration and identifying the many socio-economic benefits of a wild mountain river in Tyrol!
