The 56th session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC 56) will take place in conjunction with the Working Group III (WGIII) Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) Approval Plenary (WGIII-14). This session is expected to focus on the approval of the WG III contribution to the AR6, which assesses the mitigation of climate change.
The IPCC is currently in its sixth assessment cycle. In addition to the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), during this cycle, the Panel will have produced a Methodology Report to refine the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventories, and three special reports: the Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C (SR15) released in October 2018; the Special Report on Climate Change and Land (SRCCL) issued in August 2019; and the Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC) released in September 2019.
