About RISE-IN

By combining nature-based solutions, ecosystem-based actions, physical measures, and technological tools, RISE-IN co-designs tailored interventions that deliver multiple benefits, including enhanced biodiversity and improved human wellbeing. These solutions are adaptable to diverse urban contexts and undergo rigorous assessment to ensure they are bankable by design, enabling cities to implement sustainable measures with confidence.

Funded by the Horizon Europe programme through the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), RISE-IN unites 26 partners from 13 countries with a shared mission: to transform cities into living labs for resilient, scalable, and financially viable climate action.

Objectives

  • Develop and test the concept of Bankability Readiness Level (BRL)
  • Pilot a methodology to map the co-benefits of Climate Resilient Solutions (CRS)
  • Pair identified co-benefits with innovative finance and investment solutions to enhance bankability

Methods

  • Leverage a multidisciplinary consortium of 26 organisations, combining expertise from research institutions, public authorities, non-profits, and consultancies.
  • Conduct integrated climate risk assessments, stakeholder engagement processes, and social innovation activities.
  • Co-create and tailor climate resilient solutions to local contexts, ensuring technical robustness, social inclusivity, and applicability across diverse urban settings.

Barriers

  • Political and economic uncertainty: Shifts in government priorities or global financial instability may limit funding availability and affect the scale-up and long-term feasibility of climate-resilient solutions.
  • Social resistance: Limited engagement or reluctance from local stakeholders, including businesses near intervention sites, may hinder dialogue and implementation of CRS.
  • Technical and environmental risks: Rapid technological changes or unforeseen extreme climate events could reduce the relevance, feasibility, or attractiveness of proposed solutions.

Funding

RISE-IN receives funding from the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and HorizonEurope, under Grant Agreement no. 101214441.
