Scenarios & Modelling KEN

The Knowledge Exchange Network (KEN) on Scenarios and Models focuses on new advances in scenario building and modelling biodiversity and ecosystem services to support biodiversity policies. With scenarios and models future consequences can be explored of policy commitments of the EU's Biodiversity strategy for 2030, the Marine Action Plan, the common agricultural policy, and others, but also of future developments for the long term that go beyond the time frame of these policies.

For example:

  1. How effective is the protection of 30% land and sea to preserve biodiversity under increasing climate change?
  2. What are the long term consequences of sustainable intensification of agriculture for biodiversity and food security in the EU and beyond?

The Scenario KEN builds on various global and European scenarios and modelling networks, such as the BES-SIM initiative and IPBES task force, and aims to build a topical network in Europe to strengthen capacity-building and feedback into policy frameworks.

Project Objectives

  1. Bring together the scenario and modelling community
  2. Create links between IPBES and EU funded projects
  3. Organise information on scenarios for biodiversity for policymakers and other interested stakeholders.

Membership Criteria

Membership is open to people part of the EU project on Scenarios, part of networks of Bending the Curve, BES-SIM2, NFF, IPBES
