Celebrating World Water Day 2025

World Water Day, observed annually on March 22, serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of sustainable water management and universal access to clean water. As climate change and urbanisation intensify water-related challenges, the need for innovative policies, solutions, and tools has never been more urgent. Global collaboration facilitates the implementation of these crucial tools.

The Role of Nature-based Solutions in Water Resilience

There is growing recognition of the vital role Nature-based Solutions (NBS) play in strengthening water resilience. These approaches—such as constructed wetlands, permeable surfaces, and green infrastructure—offer sustainable, cost-effective alternatives to traditional grey infrastructure.

By integrating NbS, we can:

  • Enhance water filtration for cleaner and safer drinking water
  • Reduce flood risks by improving natural water retention
  • Restore ecosystems and increase biodiversity
  • Improve urban cooling, contributing to climate adaptation in cities
  • Enhance well-being by creating greener, healthier living environments

To mark this year’s World Water Day, five EU-funded projects—WATERUN, D4RUNOFF, STOP UP, NBS NICE, and MULTISOURCE—are coming together to host an insightful joint webinar:

Title: Global Insights from Nature-based Solutions in Case Studies – Lessons Learned and Future Perspectives
Date: March 26, 2025
Time: 2PM – 4PM CET
Platform: Microsoft Teams (No registration required)

What to Expect

During the webinar, experts from the five projects will share experiences from their NbS implementation and validation across diverse climate conditions—from Poland to Colombia and Tunis to Denmark and more. You’ll gain insights into key outcomes, fieldwork challenges, and lessons learned from these initiatives.

This event will serve as an open forum for discussion, welcoming input from:

  • Local, national, and European stakeholders
  • Water management companies and NBS professionals
  • Researchers and students
  • Representatives from other EU-funded projects
