Ideally I would have liked to use models that directly capture the effects of land use on each individual species but such data for many species across Europe are not really available. So we needed a composite indicator which is bird species richness. It’s just one indicator, I agree with that, and there are many other indicators possible and I think further work should look into more detail levels. Just managing for bird species richness is not necessarily the best way to go.
