The importance of saving coastal ecosystems

On 28 July 2022 the fifth CITIES TALK NATURE webinar took place. It focused on coastal habitat restoration and revitalization and explored how Nature-based solutions can contribute to the protection of existing coastal ecosystems as well as to the restoration of degraded ones.

• Dr. Finn Viehberg, Head of the German WWF-office Baltic Sea, shared his practical experiences in the implementation of coastal protection measures, such as the renaturation of polders and salt marshes. Furthermore, he presented ways municipalities can take to support the protection of coastal ecosystems.

• Francisco Martínez Vázquez, Wildlands Conservation Manager, WILDCOAST, shared his experiences as head of the WILDCOAST Mangrove Recovery Program in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico.
