Thematic Event on Soil De-sealing

The European Union Soil Mission is spearheading a transformative initiative to address one of the most pressing ecological challenges of our time – "soil sealing."

This thematic digital event organised by Politecnico di Milano and EU-project NATI00NS sheds light on the multifaceted aspects of soil sealing, particularly in urban and post-industrial contexts, and explores innovative practices aimed at its reversal. The event delves deep into the issue of soil sealing, a phenomenon where natural soil surfaces are covered with impervious materials such as concrete or asphalt, leading to reduced soil health and biodiversity.

Furthermore, the event showcases exemplary endeavors in "de-sealing" efforts emphasising multi-stakeholder practices, and highlighting the necessity of collaboration among governments, businesses, communities, and civil society to effectively tackle soil sealing and foster healthier urban ecosystems. Through this collaborative spirit, the event seeks to inspire, inform, and empower participants to contribute to the EU Soil Mission and shape the future of sustainable urban and post-industrial soils.

This event is the first thematic event in a series of six that will be held over the coming months.
