Getting started
The Toolbox is web-based. You can explore its main tools online; first-time users are asked to register and sign in. The interface includes contextual hints, a guide and a glossary to explain technical terms as you work.
1. Start with a real decision
Write down the question you are trying to answer. For example: compare two investment options; test whether expected benefits justify costs; identify wider benefits; or find similar NbS examples.
2. Choose the most useful tool
Use the Cost-Benefit Analyser for economic assessment, Performance Assessment for qualitative benefits, or the Recommender System for discovery and examples.
3. Add the information you have
Depending on the tool, you can work from templates, enter your own project assumptions, select NbS and indicators, or describe your need in free text.
4. Review and challenge the results
Look at the outputs, but also at the assumptions behind them. Where relevant, use uncertainty and sensitivity features to see how robust the result is.
5. Save, discuss and refine
Use exported tables, charts and reports to support further analysis and conversations with colleagues and stakeholders. Revisit the assessment as better information becomes available.
