UN Member States have agreed to a new statistical framework to better account for biodiversity and ecosystems in national economic planning and policy decision-making.
The new system of environmental economic accounting, developed by the United Nations with support from the European Commission, goes beyond GDP to ensure that forests, wetlands and other ecosystems are recognised in economic reporting.
