On 19 December 2022 the European Union joined 195 countries in the historic Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework addressing the dangerous loss of biodiversity and restoring natural ecosystems.
The framework includes firm commitments for 2030 to protect 30% of Earth’s lands, oceans, coastal areas, inland waters; reduce by $500 billion annual harmful government subsidies; and cut food waste in half. Nature-based solutions are recognised as a key mechanism for tackling climate change and increasing nature's contribution to people.
